Having a prodigal child can make it even more isolated. Prayers for Prodigals is a wonderful resource for when you are feeling despair on your parenting journey. Each day is a verse to meditate on and a heartfelt prayer filled with scripture to uplifted encourage, and renew your weary soul. </div><div><br /></div><div>I especially liked having prayers when it felt like my own prayers had run dry. To have pre written prayers for your child can be such an encouragement when you are feeling lost and hopeless. </div><div><br /></div><div>This devotional will surely remind you of the power of prayer and the power of God to work in your life and your child’s. </div><div><br /></div><div>#PrayersforProdigalsUpdatedandExpanded #NetGalley</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8940532515082053181.post-88145998456483492912022-09-10T13:09:00.004-05:002022-09-10T13:09:51.471-05:00The Story of Water by Caroline Saunders<div>The Story of Water by Caroline Saunders is such a treat! Take your children on a journey of how God uses water throughout the Bible with beautiful illustrations to illuminate these truths. From Genesis to Revelations, Caroline shows us how God uses water the rescue and redemption of His people. Each story (such as Noah’s Ark, the woman at the well, and Jesus’ baptism) is told in a way kids can understand and grasp. </div><div><br /></div><div>I loved how at the end of the book, there was a recap of each story and discussion questions to go over together. I would recommend this book for toddlers to about age 8. Be encouraged and refreshed as you are reminded of God’s amazing plan for rescue and refreshment through the Living Water. </div><div><br /></div><div>#TheStoryofWater #NetGalley</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8940532515082053181.post-49844754242243651672022-09-10T12:44:00.003-05:002022-09-10T12:44:25.931-05:00Liturgies for Hope<div>Liturgies for Hope are the prayers we all need in this turbulent and unknown times. Sometimes when you don’t know the words to pray, reciting the heart of another’s laments, joys, hopes, and pain can be peaceful and help you to put words to your own unexpressed feelings. It’s a springboard for a deeper time of being with God. </div><div><br /></div><div>These prayers were like a balm to my soul when I was unable to put a finger to what I was feeling and thinking for a myriad of daily things both big and small. </div><div><br /></div><div>In “A Liturgy for the Aftermath of a Crisis,” I found great comfort and a sense of being seen when the authors wrote: “Would You walk this road of recovery with us, speaking peace to our fragile, forgetful minds, refreshing us with the truth that we are always sustained by Your hand?” This is just a small sampling of the truth, hope, and comfort that you will find in these pages. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to jumpstart their prayer life, infuse hope into pain, celebrate the joy of the ordinary, or bring the wide array of emotions of life to the Lord. </div><div><br /></div><div>I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. </div><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8940532515082053181.post-11821134493302938152022-08-30T15:44:00.003-05:002022-08-30T15:44:53.908-05:00Fostered by Tori Hope PetersonFostered by Tori Hope Peterson is an incredible glimpse into the world of foster care. It’s a picture of the reality of living in a grey world, but all through the filter of the hope of a true Father and His good ways. <div><br /></div><div>Fostered is Tori’s story (good, bad, and in between) of life in the foster care system and the broken, painful, and yet at times beautiful parts of family woven into it all. </div><div><br /></div><div>Her writing style is captivating and draws you in with her authenticity and grace. Her story is at times hard to read, but I think it is essential reading for Christians. When we talk about foster care, children in foster care, and how does following Christ fit into it all…we must hear and believe the stories of former and present children in foster care. To fix a broken system takes more than just “I’m praying for you.” We must come around the entire family with love, care, and resources to help our children thrive and succeed. Trauma is real and how it plays out into the lives of children today is very present and must be discussed in families, school, and churches. Children living with trauma are in every school, church, city, and state in our country and as Christ followers we must learn trauma and be agents of His grace and healing to hurting children, parents, and families. </div><div><br /></div><div>I highly encourage you to read this book and reflect ways you are able to support the foster care system in your city. We all have a part to play and to say, “Oh, I’d get too attached.” Or, “I just don’t know how you do it” washes your hands of something that we are all called to support and use our God given talents, resources, and time to bring about change for the glory of God. </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8940532515082053181.post-13337127023027725902022-04-03T14:23:00.002-05:002022-08-26T23:48:09.412-05:00My Body Is Not A Prayer RequestWow! “My Body Is Not A Prayer Request” is an insightful, humbling, and hopeful book. I feel privileged to take a look inside the heart and mind of a disabled person. I set aside my preconceived notions of disability and was met with beauty and wisdom I would have missed without reading this book. This quote is just too good to miss: “To assume that my disability needs to be erased in order for me to live an abundant life is disturbing not only because of what it says about me but also because of what it reveals about people’s notions of God. I bear the image of the Alpha and the Omega. My disabled body is a temple for the Holy Spirit. I have the mind of Christ. There’s no caveat to those promises. I don’t have a junior holy spirit because I am disabled. To suggest that I am anything less than sanctified and redeemed is to suppress the image of God in my disabled body and to limit how God is already at work through my life. Maybe we need to be freed not from disability but from the notion that it limits my ability to showcase God’s radiance to the church. What we need to be freed from is ableism.” Take the time to look into your own heart to see where these insidious lies might be showing up in your perception of the disabled. I know my heart and mind have been forever changed and a new set of eyes to see and honor the work and dignity of God within them <div><br /></div><div>I highly recommend “My Body Is Not A Prayer Request” and hope you are able to read it and let the Holy Spirit convict, teach, and change you through Amy Kenny’s words. </div><div><br /></div><div>I just reviewed My Body Is Not a Prayer Request by Amy Kenny. #MyBodyIsNotaPrayerRequest #NetGalley </div><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8940532515082053181.post-76176877729815981922022-03-19T20:29:00.000-05:002022-03-19T20:29:14.572-05:00Kids Cook Dinner by Deanna F. I love her authentic, real-life style of writing and how she makes the reader feel safe to have gone through the same issues (be it parenting, food, or marriage). I was really blown away by this book. Honestly, I was thinking exactly what Jefferson addressed in the beginning of the book…how can someone with such a young family write a book about family? BUT, I loved his response and the humility and boldness to write what he felt like God has made a passion of his. I loved the themes of team and putting the correct emphasis on how to do family. I highly recommend this book for parents, grandparents, pastors, children and youth ministers, and even teachers. It’s a great, engaging read on vitally important topic in today’s Church and world. </div><div><br /></div><div>I received this book from NetGalley. Her voice is so needed in the Christian writer realm. She takes the reader through the importance of understanding God’s holiness and then living out that understanding. I read the book and listened to the audiobook and highly recommend the audiobook! She read it herself and the combination of her poetic voice and powerful words made it an awesome listen. </div><div><br /></div><div>Holier Than Thou made me worship God as I was reading it because of how God’s goodness through His holiness was on display. I was highlighting left and right due to all of the truth that was being preached and I’m thankful I was able to read it. My view of God is bigger, richer, and more in line with who He is as result of reading this book. </div><div><br /></div><div>I highly recommend it to anyone walking through a hard season in life. As the wife of a multi ethnic church planter, this book was right up my alley. I really enjoyed reading the story of First Baptist Duluth and the way God is moving there. It’s a beautiful picture of what heaven will be! I believe when we as white Americans start viewing our brothers and sisters as integral to God’s mission and not people to be controlled, we will see true and lasting change in our churches becoming multicultural not just in word but in deed as well. To look at someone and not think, “How can I (subtly or not so subtly) make you more like me,” but instead say, “Without you and your gifts and background and skin tone, we will be missing a part of God’s heart here in our church!”</div><div><br /></div><div>I really enjoyed all of the stories from this book and highly recommend it to pastors, elders, and anyone desiring to see God’s people come together as one in Christ in our Church. </div><div><br /></div><div>I just reviewed Hearing in Technicolor by Mark Hearn; Darcy Wiley. #HearinginTechnicolor #NetGalley</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8940532515082053181.post-11956910180342231812021-06-11T12:40:00.000-05:002021-06-11T12:40:07.098-05:00On the Spectrum by Daniel Bowman, Jr. <div>Wow! Daniel Bowman, Jr.’s memoir/collection of essays is a must read for the Church. As more adults are diagnosed with autism, it can be hard to understand how to love, support, and understand their neurodiversities. Many memoirs and books about autism are written by parents, educators, psychologists, and about children. It’s rare to find books written about autism by autistic adults. On the Spectrum is a look into the world of a Christian with neurodiversities. I really enjoyed reading this book and I learned so much. As a body of Believers, we must come together to support and encourage the gifts, talents, and diversity of the members of our church. On the Spectrum challenges long held stereotypes and misinformation and allows the voice of someone with neurodiversities to tell their own story. It’s a powerful reminder and teaching moment to see the beauty of how God created each one of us and to allow us to use our own voice to share our stories. I highly recommend this book to pastors, parents, teachers, and really anyone! With 1 in 45 people diagnosed with autism, the chances of you being in community, loving, teaching, or parenting one is great. Read this book to gain insight and show the people in your church and your life you care to learn more about them and their often times overlooked beautiful differences. </div><div>I just reviewed On the Spectrum by Daniel Bowman Jr.. #OntheSpectrum #NetGalley </div><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8940532515082053181.post-68775997939346357312021-06-08T21:25:00.002-05:002021-06-08T21:25:25.795-05:00The Book of Acts as Story<div>My husband is preaching through the book of Acts and when I saw “The Book of Acts as Story” I knew I had to read it! Her writing is so life giving and affirming for counselors, pastors, and victims</div><div>of abuse. I’ve read her other books and couldn’t wait for this one to release. Redeeming Power is a much needed voice in a space that has been conspicuously silent. As believers, we should call out abuse and advocate justice. I highly recommend this book for all pastors, counselors, and people in power in religious spheres. The more you know, the more you can advocate and bring abuse to the light and bring justice and redemption to victims. And not only that, but put people and policies in place that will stop abuse. </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8940532515082053181.post-85535503407623220272021-04-06T22:28:00.002-05:002021-04-06T22:28:46.306-05:00The Quran with Christian CommentaryThe Quran with Christian Commentary is a wonderful resource for Christians wanting to learn more about what Muslims believe. I loved this book and it’s simplicity but much needed message. It’s written in a way that draws you in, informs, and encourages you. If you have read other books on time management, phone usage, and the pace of life, you might have felt condemned and overwhelmed after you finished. Osheta Moore writes with precision wrapped in kindness and grace. She continually brings the reader back to the heart of God and reminds of us as identity in Him and our role as peacemakers. Osheta’s encouragement and humble calling out to pursue anti racism work as Beloved Peacemakers is incredibly gracious and a true gift. This book is for all White people who love Jesus. It’s even better for people who claim to “not see color” or “I’m not racist.” I encourage all White people to come under the teaching and heart of a Black leader like Osheta Moore. Her book will challenge, encourage, and push you to become more like Jesus in how you love, think, and act. You can tell with each chapter how much Osheta cares and desires for true peace between not just believers, but all people. I loved the breath prayers at the end of each chapter. “Inhale: Liberator. Exhale: Set the captives free.” I recommend this book for book clubs, community groups, and individuals. Let’s not continue to sweep the crucial work of anti racism under the rug as Christians. Take this opportunity to learn and grow through this book! <div><br /></div><div>Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy of this book. Join Olive as she journeys through modern day Nigeria and Lake Chad as she encounters people, animals, and lands rarely seen by women in the early 1900s. </div><div><br /></div><div>I was very intrigued by Olive’s story and couldn’t wait to read a true account of such a strong woman in a time period accustomed to women who didn’t travel or take risks. I love historical non-fiction and wanted to love Olive the Lionheart. While the subject matter was very interesting, I just feel like the final product didn’t quite measure up to the potential of the story. The book was longer than I was hoping and got slow in parts. But, the author tackled a little known story and made Olive shine. Overall, I would recommend this book because it sheds light on a women’s story in a time when women were rarely singled out and highlighted. </div><div><br /></div><div>Thank you to NetGalley for the copy of this book. He can expertly take you between both worlds because he has lived in each of them. “No One But God” is packed with knowledge and heart. It’s heavy on history and information for a mid size book, but he joins the heart so well inside all the information. I highly recommend this book and it’s legacy it has left even after Nabeel has passed away. He truly lived his faith and loved Jesus. We couldn’t wait to read her latest book, and it did not disappoint! “Stella Endicott and the Anything-Is-Possible-Poem” is classic Kate DiCamillo! The characters are hilarious and the names always get my boys. They love how the same characters show up in each of her books. I love how I can read them a fun, upbeat book that has an uplifting message and nothing inappropriate for their ages. We love the illustrations and her funny way with words. I love how it combines the theory/research side of connecting with your child and the life experiences of an adoptive mother. The Connected Parent offers the practical step by step lists you are looking for when you feel overwhelmed and unsure of how to connect. I loved how each chapter included real-life stories from Lisa Qualls with the gentle wisdom and research of Dr. Karyn Purvis. It ended with a much needed practical guide and next steps. I found myself highlighting the scripts and using them immediately. This is a timely book and I’m so grateful for the wisdom, honesty, and authenticity. It gives hope to parents and caregivers and I’m thankful for the knowledge and tips I’ve learned!</span><br style="font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px;" /><span style="font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px;">I received this book from the publisher, but my opinions are my own. </span><div><font face="UICTFontTextStyleBody"><span style="font-size: 17px;"><br /></span></font></div><div><font face="UICTFontTextStyleBody"><span style="font-size: 17px;">Purchase on Amazon: </span></font>The Connected Parent: Real-Life Strategies for Building Trust and Attachment https://www.amazon.com/dp/0736978925/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_L6GcFbP2V1ZYP<font face="UICTFontTextStyleBody"><span style="font-size: 17px;"><br /></span></font><div><span style="font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px;"><br /></span></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8940532515082053181.post-46348544287800042822020-05-31T09:25:00.001-05:002020-05-31T09:26:35.713-05:00See-Through Marriage Book ReviewI just received #seethroughmarriage by @fiercemarriage 🌟<br />
<br />
I’m only a few chapters in and loving it so far!<br />
Transparency is one of the biggest foundations of our marriage, and when I saw See-Through Marriage, I knew I wanted to get it because it’s such an important part of a healthy marriage. I wanted to be able to walk engaged and married couples through the “how-to” of transparency and vulnerability and this book delivers! It’s great for small groups, Pre-marital counseling, and accountability partners. I really enjoy the discussion questions at the end of each chapter. You’ll grow in the knowledge of your husband or wife and produce a lasting fruit in your marriage of encouraging one another in your walk with the Lord.<br />

Thank you to Baker Books for this copy. My opinions are my own.<br />
