Hands Free Mama Book Review

Aptly titled, Hands Free Mama:  A Guide to Putting Down the Phone, Burning the To-Do List, and Letting Go of Perfection to Grasp What Really Matters, Rachel Macy Stafford challenges, encourages, and shows us how to become the parents and people we long to be. In a world over saturated with smart phones, computers, TVs, and the never-ending pressure to do all and be all, Hands Free Mama is a breath of fresh air for the person who wants to make a change. 




I loved this book and picked it up at exactly the right time. I realized I was spending entirely too much time on my phone and not enough time enjoying the simple pleasures of being a stay at home mom. As a stay at home mom, time is both a blessing and a curse. You have unlimited amounts of it and sometimes the temptation to zone out with media can be a struggle. Rachel Macy Stafford writes from her own experiences as someone who realized she was missing out on the important things in life. Each chapter includes time to reflect and opportunities to put the information into action. In one example, she says, "Making a concerted effort to offer my full attention when greeting my loved ones was a turning point in my journey. I found that it didn't take much effort to set aside my distractions when reuniting with my child or spouse after a separation, yet the impact was immeasurable (p. 90)."

I recommend Hands Free Mama to everyone, not just mothers. It is a timely read for so much of our society today. So whether you are a teenager or an empty-nester, I think this book is a must read. I love that the author isn't saying throw away your phones or TVs, but encourages us all to be more intentional with the time that we have. I have been challenged to become a better wife, mother, and Christian as a result of reading Hands Free Mama. It's given me the push I was looking for to limit the things that were distracting me truly living the life I wanted for myself and my family.

Bible Promises and Prayers for Children

Bible Promises and Prayers for Children is a powerful and useful book for families. I loved each section and felt like the size of each devotional made it so it was not overwhelming for my family to do together. It’s a privilege and blessing to pray over and with my children and I’m grateful for this book to be able to have a quick and easy way to impart truth, love, and encouragement into my kids.  Thank you to Net Galley for this copy, my opinions are my own.

Dangerous Love: A True Story of Tragedy, Faith, and Forgiveness Review

Wow! I was not able to put down Dangerous Love. It is a riveting, heartbreaking, faith inspiring true story about a father and daughter who must face the unthinkable:  forgiveness in the face of no remorse. Ray and his daughter Hannah show true love that only comes from faith in Christ. Living in Mauritania as World Relief workers, they see the good, the bad, and the ugly of cross cultural living. Throughout the whole book, you are amazed at their faith and the love they show. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to see their faith in God restored. It's such an uplifting and incredible reminder of how God's love for us is like Ray and Hannah and their family's love shown to their attacker. Completely undeserved...but what an amazing God we serve who not only showed us this love but enables us to shower others with it, too. A must read!!
